MIT OpenCourseWare (OCW) is a web-based publication of virtually all Massachusetts Institute of Technology course content. OCW is open and available to the world and is a permanent MIT activity.
Through OCW, educators can improve courses and curricula, making their schools more effective; students find additional resources to help them succeed; and independent learners enrich their lives and use the content to tackle some of our world’s most difficult challenges, including sustainable development, climate change, and cancer eradication.
The site has had 125 millions visits and offers 2150 courses of different subjects (including Mathematics, Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Planetary Science, Physics and Health Science) and translated courses in different languages (Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.). The courses also offer collections of audio/video lectures, online textbooks and supplemental resources.
In addition, the site provides a space called OCW Educator, an initiative to share insights and to enhance the value of OCW for educators. This space stand out resources developed for OCW Educator, plus other related MIT education and teaching resources. Another resource is the space Highlights for High School that include materials for teaching in secondary school.
Since 2004 the MIT OCW is part of Open Education Consortium, a worldwide community of hundreds of higher education institutions and associated organizations committed to advancing open education and its impact on global education. In this consortium participate Latin American and European universities.
